Creative Future Literary Awards - writer in Residence scheme now open for applications

The UK’s only national competition for all under-represented writers announces its 12 ‘outstanding’ winners.

Thank you to everyone who entered The Creative Future Literary Awards this year. We received triple the number of entries to that of 2016, totalling 664 entries from 557 under-represented writers, and the quality of the work was outstanding.

6 poems and 6 short stories were chosen from a shortlist of 34 entries by a judging panel of literary industry professionals, including Aki Schilz (The Literary Consultancy), Mary-Anne Harrington (Tinder Press at Headline/The Future Bookshelf), Julia Bird (The Poetry School), Pat Winslow (award-winning poet) and Dominique De-Light (Creative Future Director).

The winners are (in alphabetical order):

  • Elleni Harpa (poetry)
  • Megan Holland (prose)
  • Tricia Lowther (prose)
  • Day Mattar (poetry)
  • Elizabeth Ridout (poetry)
  • Stephen Riley (prose)
  • Emma Robdale (prose)
  • Helen Seymour (poetry)
  • Pauline Walker (prose)
  • Sophie Woolley (prose)

Winners will receive a share of £1000 cash and development prizes from leading literature organisations including The Literary Consultancy, Penguin Random House Writers’ Academy, The Poetry School and Myriad Editions. Winners will also appear in an anthology produced by Just Content and Kingston University Press, alongside work by international best-selling author, Kit de Waal, and poet/playwright, Sabrina Mahfouz.

The prizes that each of these writers have won will be announced and awarded at a Showcase Event as part of The Birmingham Literature Festival at 7pm on October 11th.
