About the session

Whether you’re new or experienced in submitting to literary competitions, this session will offer top tips on entering and the chance to hear firsthand what goes on behind the scenes.

Join Matt Freidson as he shares his experience of running the Creative Future Writers’ Award from front to back, as well as reading each and every entry. He’ll share some of the common do’s and don’ts to watch out for as you send in your work, as well as how to find and choose competitions to enter.

He’ll also speak about what excites him and literary judges in a submission—covering poetry, short stories and creative non-fiction—and how to make your work stand out. Finally, he’ll offer his advice on keeping track of your competition entries, and how to keep going in the face of rejection. There will be time for Q&A, so do come with any questions.
