Regular Open Mic Nights
What is an open mic night?
Open mic nights are live shows in front of an audience. Writers and poets may sign up in advance to the open mic night, but quite often they are opened up to allow audience members to perform too. It’s very common to hold open mic nights to showcase poetry or spoken word. The host is usually a spoken word artist or poet themselves. They will call out of list of names of people signed up to perform for the evening.
Open Mic night venues vary from coffee shops, to museums, bars and even libraries. The set up is often informal, with time for discussion amongst audience members in between acts. A time limit for each performer is usually specified to allow everyone an equal amount of time to share their work.
