The Poetry of Food (Online)

About the course:

Food is more than just sustenance – it’s one way we build community; coming together and sharing parts of ourselves. From ancient times telling stories over meat on an open fire through to the modern sensibilities of fine dining and small plates; food is how we celebrate, how we mourn, how we socialise, and how we survive.

This course will be about exploring the associations we have with food – the good, the bad, and the weird. A home cooked family dinner, your favourite meal with a friend you miss, the last scraps left in the fridge three days before payday. How we tie our thoughts, feelings and sensations so deeply to these moments and meals.

I’ll share my favourite poems about food, then together we’ll write our own versions, inspired by images, lines, fragments and foodstuffs.
