Meet the Writer: Penny Pepper – Brighton

This series showcases under-represented writers and artists and how they got their work ‘out there’. They aim to inform and inspire and give you the opportunity to meet practicing professional artists and writers.

Penny Pepper is a writer, poet and well-known rights activist. Her memoir First In The World Somewhere is published on 7 September by award-winning publishers Unbound. In 2018 Burning Eye Books will publish her highly anticipated first poetry collection.penny pepper

She writes regularly for The Guardian and has appeared on Newsnight, Sky News, BBC Radio 5 Live, and on Radio 4’s Today programme. She was also a guest reader for her friend, much loved Silent Witness actor-comedian, Liz Carr on Radio 4’s With Great Pleasure, and a recent guest on Woman’s Hour, for their 70th birthday edition.

Her explicit taboo-breaking book about sex and disabled people Desires Reborn was published in 2012, and in 2013 she won a Creative Future Literary Award. In 2015 her one woman show, Lost in Spaces premiered at the Soho Theatre before going on a successful tour. She has also performed in Oxford, Edinburgh, and New York.

She is currently finishing work on her novel, Fancy Nancy, and starting a new one. She likes cats, is a music junkie and once won an Erotic Oscar.
