Acrylic and oil pastels on paper
About the Artist
I am a mixed media artist predominantly using acrylic and oil pastels in a sgraffito style, at times, using collage.
I work on paper because I prefer its smooth surface which feels more suited to manipulation. I also like that it is very accessible.
My work is often textured with bold , sometimes garish colours. This can appear to contrast with the subject matter, which at times can be emotionally challenging and difficult.
Most of my works display themes of resilience, connection, breakdown, recovery and power.
I am particularly interested in expressing vulnerability, in-visibility and perceived beauty and imperfections. My work is often layered, revealing and concealing.
I am inspired by Henri Rousseau, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Van Gogh, Frida Kahlo, Tracey Emin, L.S Lowry, Banksy, Picasso, Yayoi Kusama, The Stuckists, Art Brut, Street art and other marginalised artists and groups.
I also love winter trees, chickens, gardening, bicycles, sunshine and art shops!
